Matthew 25:40 – And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
I can say that I am a woman of service. At an early age, I took care of my sick mother right before she died. I have had various situations when I had opportunity to serve, from attending to a sick aunt to taking in a homeless woman. Although I have helped people I somehow felt this was not enough.
After reading Matthew 25:40 I thought, “Who is the least of my brethren?” Is it the beggar, or the sick, or the widow, or the orphan? Surely there will always be the government or some charitable people willing to help these less fortunate ones.
Then I realized that the least of them all are my ancestors, those who have left this mortal life without a knowledge of the gospel. They are anxiously waiting in the Spirit world for us to help them in their salvation.
I serve them by doing my Family History work. As a Family History volunteer, I also help members of the church search for their ancestors and perform temple ordinances. I know that by giving my best in serving my ancestors, I am also serving God.
