One day, my parents called out my name from outside our house suggesting that I hurry up because me and my younger brothers will be late for school. I hurriedly walked to the gate where they waited for me. I saw my mom’s eyes grew big and her voice became forceful when she saw me went back inside the house again. She wondered why I turned around and walked back when I knew that I’m already late for school. I forgot to put some centavos in my piggy bank and set aside 10 percent of my ‘baon’ (allowance) that day for tithing come Sunday. This has been my practice since my parents started giving me money for ‘baon’ in school. I had been secretly saving both for tithing and for my future. My mom’s face smiled when she found out later.
I save 10 percent of my ‘baon’ for tithing because I know that it is a commandment of the Lord. As I pay my tithes, I can feel God’s love. He helps me remember all that I had studied during exams and quizzes. He blesses me in all my academic and extra-curricular activities. As I continue to pay my tithing, I am also saving for my eternal future.
